Weekly Wrap Up #7

I’m really enjoying this as a regular feature, as it allows me to discuss all my bookish thoughts, without turning it into a ginormous wrap-up post. So, today, I’ll be reviewing all the books I’ve read since last Saturday, as I try to get these back on schedule.

1. Proud (anthology) 🏳️‍🌈⭐️💙

This was such a fantastic, heart-warming and empowering collection. Every piece of work really affected me and started a discussion. The combination of brilliantly written stories and gorgeous artwork made for an amazing book. Four and a half stars.

2. Speak Up! by Laura Coryton 💙

An informative, quick read about activism with an excellent voice. I felt that it was quite repetitive, but overall it was an enjoyable call to action. Three stars.

3. Izzy + Tristan by Shannon Dunlap ⭐️💙

I loved the romance and the various subplots surrounding it, but my biggest issue was with the ending and the sudden inclusion of discussion around racism. It felt tacked-on for effect, rather than a nuanced depiction. The characters were memorable and I thought Dunlap made them more three-dimensional and relatable. Three and a half stars.

4. Allegedly by Tiffany D.Jackson 💙⭐️

Mary has such a strong and powerful voice that I couldn’t help but be sucked into the story and what a story it is. Such an engaging plot with bucketloads of dramatic tension and this wonderful, flowing writing style. Now, I need to read more of Jackson’s work. Four stars.

I’m about 150 pages into this beast of a book and it’s the rich, detailed and lush fantasy that I need currently.

Have you read any of the books I’ve mentioned today and if so, what did you think of them?
