Weekly Wrap-Up #8

This is my final wrap-up of the month, which is why this is slightly late, so my Monthly Wrap Up can contain all the books I’ve read.

This has been such an incredible week, as I got nominated for Best Newcomer at the UKYABA Awards! I am still in complete shock, awe and am incredibly grateful, so that’s completely made my week.

1. The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon 🏳️‍🌈⭐️💙

This is an utter masterpiece. The plot, the characters and the world-building are all just incredible. Full thoughts here. Five stars.

2. The Truth About Keeping Secrets by Savannah Brown 🏳️‍🌈💙⭐️

An atmospheric, tense, nail-biting YA thriller that kept me up late trying to work out all the secrets. It was one of the best portrayals of the complex messiness of grief that I’ve seen, while also being a great psychological thriller. My only downside was that I did guess whodunnit, but it was enjoyable getting there. Four stars.

3. Internment by Samira Ahmed ⭐️💙

Extremely powerful, moving look at the scary future our world could be facing. This is kind of dystopia, but it’s deeply-rooted in events which are happening right now. However, I felt like it skimmed the surface slightly, the love story was over-played (would you really risk death  for you and your family in order to kiss your boyfriend once?) and the ending felt a bit rushed. Three stars.

4. Summer Bird Blue by Akemi Dawn Bowman 🏳️‍🌈💙⭐️

A heart-wrenching, beautiful and complex portrayal of grief with a stunning writing style, great characters and a story that I will treasure for a long time. Full thoughts here. Five stars.

Have you read any of the books mentioned and if so, what did you think of them?
How has your week been?
